In regards to President Obama, who also received an F rating in the 2008 campaign, I asked Otto if Obama has done any better since then. She emphatically stated, “Absolutely not!” She went on to explain, “We are very concerned with the actions President Obama has taken in the past four years. It is vitally important for the Second Amendment and for all of our races that he not get re-elected.”

The U.S. Senate race between incumbent Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown and Republican challenger Josh Mandel is under the spotlight of national attention. This neck and neck race could be one of the key races in determining a shift in the balance of power in the next U.S. Senate. Now, the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is focusing its attention on helping shift the control of the Senate to a more 2nd Amendment friendly leadership.

During my recent trip to Washington DC, I sat down with ILA spokeswoman, Jacqueline Otto, to discuss the 2012 election and the ILA’s positions. In this interview, we talked about Obama’s re-election campaign and what a new Supreme Court could look like under his second term of office. We also focused on the Ohio Senate race where Sen. Brown has received an F rating from the NRA’s ILA. Contrast that with Mandel’s history of solid support for the Second Amendment.

One of the most long-lasting powers of the President is the appointment of Supreme Court Justices. Currently, on most Second Amendment issues, there is a 5-4 split on the Supreme Court in favor of supporting the 2nd Amendment as an individual right. Otto explained, “If President Obama gets re-elected and gets to appoint another justice, or two, or three, some of those justices who were in the minority before, such as Justice Ginsburg, have already voiced their desire to overturn (recent gun rights) rulings.”

“That means that the Second Amendment is not just under threat for the next four years under President Obama,” Otto asserted. “We’re talking about the life of the Second Amendment… These justices serve for life!” It is important to note that President Obama’s first two, very liberal, appointees are in their fifties and will likely serve on the court for 20 years or more.

The NRA and its ILA are doing great work for those of us who respect and cherish this country’s Second Amendment. Please get involved with the ILA’s efforts to get out the vote in key battleground elections like the Ohio senate race. Visit www.NRAILA.org and check out their grass roots action areas. If you support the Second Amendment, this presidential election is the most important election we have ever had. President Obama created the Fast and Furious Program to try and create a crisis whereby he could put gun control restrictions in place. This led to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and hundreds of Mexican citizens. To this day, thousands of guns are still unaccounted for.

Obama has attempted to circumvent the US Constitution by creating a UN Arms Control Treaty that would limit the rights of US Citizens. He has appointed two anti-Second Amendment justices to the Supreme Court and will appoint more if re-elected. If for no other reason, our liberty must be protected by defeating President Obama in November.

There are two weeks left to register to vote. Register now and then get out and vote on November 6th. Take ten of your like-minded friends with you!
